So for the most part, a vegetarian WAS a raw foodist. In ancient times, although some men and women were concerned with various methods of physical and mental purification, the idea of raw foodism would have been quite a luxury to most people, except perhaps to the elite of society, such as kings and queens, who could afford getting tropical fruits “imported” from faraway lands. However, royalty usually tended towards excess rather than extreme self- discipline. As a concept, however, the “raw food diet” started around 1.
